The premiere of G. Bizet's Carmen will take place in the Kraków Opera House on 5 March 2010. The opera belongs to the most popular performances in the world.

A long-awaited Kraków staging has attracted excellent artists and producers. Tadeusz Kozłowski assumed musical direction. Performance direction and scenography have been prepared by the well-known team of Laco Adamik and Barbara Kędzierska, with choreography by Katarzyna Aleksander-Kmieć.

Małgorzata Walewska will sing the title part. She is a soloist performing on the greatest opera stages. The cast also includes Monika Ledzion, Agnieszka Cz±stka, Martin Babjak, Przemysław Firek, Mariusz Godlewski, Vasyl Grokholskyi, Tomasz Kuk, Arnold Rutkowski and others.

Carmen is the most popular French opera of the 19th century. It brought immortal fame to its author. It is a story of love, infidelity and murder. Today, almost everyone can hum the Habanera or the Toreador song. The opera was filmed, dozens of recordings were produced, and new ones are still contemplated.

The performance will be staged in the Kraków Opera House about ten times until the end of the present season.
