“The Elixir of Love” at the Market Square in Lanckorona

Right before the beginning of the new artistic season 2017/2018, the Krakow Opera would like to invite you to a performance of “The Elixir of Love” by Gaetano Donizetti, which will take place on 9 September (at 6:00 p.m.) at the Market Square in Lanckorona. The performance is consistent with the strategy of the Krakow Province aimed to bring the culture closer to the inhabitants of small towns. The Executive Board of the Krakow Province wants cultural institutions to approach the inhabitants of the entire region with their actions and programmes. The Krakow Opera keeps pace with that idea, and takes its performances outside the Opera’s venue. With the financial support from the budget of the Krakow Province, the Opera organises another open-air show for its audience, this time in Lanckorona. This year music aficionados have had the chance to watch some performances at the Wawel Courtyard and in Trzebinia. In the previous years, performances were held in such locations as Sucha Beskidzka, Wiśnicz, Wieliczka, Krynica, and Niepołomice.

It will be the first time that an opera performance is staged against the beautiful and picturesque scenery of Lanckorona. The town will resonate with music and the usual hustle and bustle. The entire Market Square in Lanckorona will turn into an auditorium and a stage. The inhabitants will also be involved in the show. The action is set in the 19th century. The event will also bring some surprises. This celebration for the commune will give the spectators the opportunity not only to enjoy art, but also to try some traditional products of this region. The performance will contribute to promoting the commune, and at the same time, will be a source of joy for the inhabitants who will get the satisfaction of experiencing opera.

The Marshal of the Krakow Province, Jacek Krupa, took honorary patronage over the event. Project partners are as follows: the Lanckorona commune and Head of the Lanckorona commune Tadeusz Łopata, as well as the TERRA ARTIS Association and its President Leszek Mikos. The performance will be open to all the spectators, because apart from the designated sectors with seats, the entire area of the Market Square in Lanckorona will be available for everyone who will come to watch the show.

The performance will feature: Iwona Socha (Adina), Andrzej Lampert (Nemorino), Michał Kutnik (Belcore), Przemysław Firek (Dulcamara), Monika Korybalska (Gianetta). The artists will be accompanied by the Ballet, Choir and Orchestra of the Krakow Opera directed by Evgeny Volynskiy. The artistic directors of the performance are: Bogusław Nowak, Ryszard Melliwa, Bożena Pędziwiatr, Dariusz Pawelec and Magdalena Kut, while Kazimierz Wiśniak - the master of Krakow set designers, will be responsible for the artistic vision of the show.

Donizetti’s masterpiece is a gem of the Italian comic opera. The main theme is a love story set against a backdrop of rural and idyllic landscape. It is also a story with a universal message that the good and love are timeless values which have always fascinated the entire generations.

Tickets in designated sectors will be available at the price of PLN 40 to 80 from 21 August 2017 at the Krakow Opera’s Box Office and online on www.opera.krakow.pl, as well as in Gminny Ośrodek Kultury in Lanckorona (ul. Krakowska 8, Monday to Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.).

The performance of “The Elixir of Love” at the Market Square in Lanckorona is organised with the financial support of the Krakow Province.
