The Premiere of Bellini’s “Norma”!

On 27 October 2017, our stage will be the home of the premiere performance of the opera “Norma” by Vincenzo Bellini. This marks the second time in the Krakow Opera’s history that the title is featured in its repertoire.

The performance is directed by Laco Adamik, the musical director is Tomasz Tokarczyk, the sets are designed by Barbara Kędzierska, the costumes are authored by Maria Balcerek, the choir was prepared by Jacek Mentel, and the stage lighting by Bogumił Palewicz. Subsequent performances are scheduled for 28, 29, and 31 October 2017.

“Norma” is believed to be a perfect opera in which the composer, Vincenzo Bellini, demonstrated inexhaustible melodic invention; the musical layer was given a sublime and noble expression, while the themes are “sculpted in white marble”.

Every singer wants to play the role of Norma although this part is regarded as “a murderer of sopranos”. Only the best voices can perform it.  In our performance the role of Norma will be sung by Katarzyna Oleś-Blacha, the leading soprano of the Krakow ensemble. The cast also includes Paolo Lardizzone, Rutkowski.(Pollione), Agnieszka Cząstka, Monika Korybalska (Adalgisa), Wołodymyr Pańkiw, Szymon Kobyliński (Oroveso), Daria Proszek, Agata Dembska-Kornaga Clotilde), Krzysztof  Kozarek, Jarosław Bielecki (Flavio). The soloists will be accompanied by the Ballet, Choir, and Orchestra of the Krakow Opera conducted by Tomasz Tokarczyk.

The title character is a high-priestess torn between her love to a man who is an invader and her social service, and between her love to own children and her desire for revenge as a betrayed mistress. The conflict between love and obligation, and the private and public sphere is very emotional here, truly human and universal.

Tickets are available at the Opera Box Office, and online on our website.
