"Bona Sforza" in Bari
“Bona Sforza” has returned to Bari
On 14 September 2026, the Teatro Petruzzelli in Bari staged the Italian premiere of Zygmunt Krauze’s opera Bona Sforza, directed by Michał Znaniecki, with a libretto by Vincenzo de Vivo. This production is the result of an international collaboration between the Krakow Opera and the Teatro Petruzzelli in Bari.
The choice of Bari as the venue for the Italian premiere carried particular significance. After all, it was this city that Bona Sforza d’Aragona – Duchess of Bari, Queen of Poland and Grand Duchess of Lithuania – was associated with; her story has left a lasting mark on both Poland and southern Italy. To honour Bona’s legacy, the vocal parts of the work are performed in Polish, Italian and Latin, emphasising the European dimension of this story.
