Bogusław Nowak

The General Manager of the Krakow Opera. He graduated from the Radio and Television Department of the University of Silesia, Katowice. He has worked for the Stary Theatre in Krakow, Radio Krakow (as its Chairman of the Board from 1995 to 2000), the Krakow Opera (its General Manager from 2001 to 2004), and the Krakow branch of TVP (its General Manager from 2004 to 2007). He has cooperated with Andrzej Wajda, Kazimierz Kutz, Krzysztof Kieślowski, Zygmunt Hübner, and Feliks Falk. A television and film producer, in his own right, Bogusław Nowak has a number of programmes and television documentaries to his credit, including ones about Andrzej Wajda, Jerzy Jarocki, Krystian Lupa, Ewa Lassek, as well as Lidia Skarżyńska and Jerzy Skarżyński. He has also co-organised and hosted numerous artistic and cultural events, including the Mrożek Festival (1990), the European Culture Month (1992), outdoor shows and concerts, such as The Haunted Manor in Niepołomice (2002) and Halka at Krakow’s Skałki Twardowskiego (2004), and a series of concerts in the Wieliczka Salt Mine, the originator and director of the Stained Glass Poetry show at the St. Francis Basilica in Krakow as part of the Wyspianski Festival 2007, and the outdoor performance of Harnasie as part of the observance of the Karol Szymanowski Year. His second term as the General Manager of the Krakow Opera began on 25th September 2007.

His time as the General Manager is notable for many events important for the growth of the Opera, among the most important of which is the completion and opening of the Opera’s new building at ul. Lubicz in 2008. He has expanded the formula and the repertoira of the Krakow Opera Summer Festival with regular events: the ”World Opera Arias” concert and the international ballet gala ”Grand pas…!” presented each year at the courtyard of the Wawel Royal Castle, and directed by him. He is the originator, organiser, and director of New Year’s and carnival concerts, including the renowned concerts featuring special guests or the ”New Year’s in Vienna, Carnival’s end in Krakow” concerts. He created the open-air opera performances, the most recent of which was G. Donizetti’s ”The Elixir of Love” at the Łańcut Castle (2015) and at the main square of Lanckorona (2017). He is the author of the Jan Kiepura Festival in Krynica Zdrój in 2014 and 2015.
