Opera Christmas Fair

Opera Christmas Fair

We cordially invite residents and guests of the capital of Lesser Poland to the Opera Christmas Fair. Between 18-22 December, the square in front of the Opera House and the Opera's foyer will turn into a winter wonderland combining the magic of Christmas and the magic of theatre. The planned attractions include, among others, workshops with the participation of Polish and Ukrainian presenters, singing carols together, the opportunity to try on opera costumes, the sale of handicrafts, and many others.
48 Lubicz Street is invariably associated with the magic of the opera stage; now our Theatre will also invite the magic of Christmas to its seat. The square in front of the Opera House will be decorated with stage design elements from performances, impressive illuminations and forest-smelling Christmas trees, which will complement the festive atmosphere. The stalls at the fair will include Christmas decorations and handicraft masks made by the Opera's art studios. Those who are looking for an original idea for Christmas gifts will be delighted by a sale of props and costume elements, as well as opera gadgets and publications – including archival posters and programmes. Those who are cold will be warmed up by hot chocolate, mulled wine or grilled sheep cheese also called “Oscypek”. In the foyer, it will be possible to take part in decorating the Opera’s Christmas tree – everyone who hangs a bauble or decoration brought by them will find a gift under the tree. The Opera Christmas Fair is also a unique opportunity to impersonate a character from one of the performances of the Krakow Opera – in the Opera Atelier you will be able to try on theatre costumes and take a photo against the background of elements of the stage design.

The grand opening of the fair will take place on Sunday, 18 December, and will begin with singing carols together on the Main Stage at 11.00 a.m. and 1.00 p.m. On that day, there will also be Polish-Ukrainian workshops on making Christmas decorations and learning Polish and Ukrainian dances with the participation of teachers and students of the Ballet Studio. Children will be able to enjoy face painting by make-up artists, and even meet Santa Claus and Snow Maiden. On 20 and 21 December, the participants of the fair will also be able to visit the Wawel Truck mobile sweets zone.
