The 67th season of the Kraków Opera is drawing to a close.
A brilliant comedy telling a love story in the atmospheric scenery of the Botanical Garden, and the story of love entangled in a political turmoil – to be seen on the final weeks of the 67th season of the Kraków Opera.
It is on 9th and 10th July at 7.30 pm in the spectacular area of the Botanical Garden of the Jagiellonian University that the Kraków Opera will perform Gaetan Donizetti's "The Elixir of Love". This work is the crown jewel of the Italian bel canto style, and one of the most popular comic operas, which has remained in production since its world premiere in 1832 at the Teatro della Cannobbiana in Milan, winning the hearts of audiences around the world to this very day. The picturesque setting of the Botanical Garden will provide the background for the love affairs of beautiful and rich Adina (Iwona Socha), poor farmhand Nemorin (Adam Sobierajski) and conceited sergeant Belcore (Michał Kutnik). Enterprising swindler Dulcamara (Dariusz Machej) will contribute to the obligatory happy ending, as his scam will ultimately be all to the good of the lovers. The artistic directors of the performance are Bogusław Nowak, Bożena Pędziwiatr, Janusz Wierzgacz, Wioletta Maciejewska and Jurek Dybał, who will conduct the Opera Orchestra, Choir and Ballet.
At the end of the artistic season – on 16th and 18th July at 6.30 pm – the Opera will perform "Tosca" by Giacomo Puccini. The love story of the title character and painter Cavaradossi, in which jealousy and passion intertwine with the political game of the head of the secret police, leading to a tragic end, is a permanent inclusion in the repertoire of opera houses. It is from this work that the following of Puccini's famous arias are taken: Recondita armonia..., E lucevan le stelle, or Vissi d'arte. The roles of Tosca and her beloved will be played by Magdalena Barylak and Tomasz Kuk, while diabolical Scarpia will be performed by Adam Szerszeń. The musical director is Andrzej Straszyński, Laco Adamik is responsible for directing and Tadeusz Kozłowski will conduct the Orchestra, Choir and Children's Choir of the Opera.
